FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND - album, tour

One of the UK's most successful rock acts, Funeral For A Friend have notched up a staggering number of successes during their illustrious five year career. Three gold selling albums. Nine Top 20 singles. Half a decade of global touring taking in Singapore, Thailand, Australasia, Japan, America and every corner of Europe. Twenty plus magazine front covers in the UK. Headlining the NME Awards tour in 2005. Supporting the likes of Iron Maiden, Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. Selling out the 8,000 tickets for an Alexandra Palace show in a heartbeat. Winning BT Digital Artist of the Year in 2007.

And on Oct 13 2008 (exactly five years to the day that their debut record 'Casually Dressed and Deep In Conversation' hit the shelves!) they will release their fourth album, 'Memory And Humanity'. Produced by Romesh Dodangoda at Longwave Studios, Cardiff, it clearly demonstrates the bands current explosive form.

Featuring thirteen new tracks, 'Memory And Humanity' draws fire from the muscular intensity of their earlier material and melds it seamlessly to the melodic intelligence of latter albums 'Hours' and 'Tales Don't Tell Themselves'. This album shows the band to be as incisively relevant as ever.

The band have also recently announced an extensive UK tour that will take place throughout October, November and December 2008.

Support on the tour will come from Canadian metallers Cancer Bats, Irish upstarts In Case Of Fire and Welsh combo Attack Attack.

"In my opinion this is the most exciting and eclectic touring lineups we've ever put together," explains Ryan Richards (Drums). "Every band brings something extra to the evening and will definitely bring the best out of us and keep us on our toes. We're going to have to limit ourselves to how many brand new songs we're going to play I think, otherwise we might get carried away and play the whole thing. It's just an album full of songs that are begging to be unleashed upon our lovely fans."

FUCKED UP - album, tour

So this week F**ked Up released their debut album for Matador Records, The Chemistry of Common Life. It's rightly been causing a stir!

To coincide, the band hosted a free 12 hour show in a shop front opposite CBGB's on Bowery in NY on Tuesday. It ended up being quite an event. See the link in the yellow box to the right. As you'll see, they lasted the full 12 hours with some help from a few unlikely faces - among others - Tim Harrington (Les Savy Fav), John Joseph (Cro-Mags), Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Moby (watch this!) and the Vivian Girls. Michael Stipe turned up apparently but sadly didn't join them onstage. Not your average gig then...

The band are returning to the UK for a full tour next month. See dates opposite
