Aaah, Summer Sundae; the staple mid-season diet of the UK's summer festivals. If you've never been to or heard of Summer Sundae Weekender before, let me give you a brief history lesson. Conceived in 2001, originally as a 1 day festival with 1 stage, moving to 2 days in 2002 and then 3 days by 2004 (with 4 stages), the festival has gradually grown in strength each progressive year as being THE festival to go to if you want to catch some new, upcoming artists on the rise (and also a whole horde of excellent new talent), aswell as a few more well-known established artists thrown in for good measure. Summer Sundae has won media praise each year, is featured regularly on BBC 6Music and has also won the award for “Best Small Festival" in the 2006 UK Festival Awards.
Over the years, SSW has played host to new and upcoming and established talents such as Kasabian (2004), The Pigeon Detectives (2007), Morcheeba (2001), Amy Winehouse (2004), Editors (2005), Hot Chip (2005), James Morrison (2006), Super Furry Animals (2004), Kate Nash (2007) and The Magic Numbers (2007), among many many more names. This year continues this trend, with acts such as José Gonzalez, Reverend & The Makers, Macy Gray, Supergrass, Roisin Murphy, Dodgy, and even Simian Mobile Disco in their first and only LIVE performance of the 2008 festival season. Between these we have the usual new talent (with a lot this year coming out of Leicester's musical city), many singer/songwriters and even the more obscure acts that Summer Sundae has become well known for hosting.
